Under certain circumstances, it can take root in different places or organs and spread as an "infection". This infection is visible by the presence of a "white" discharge or other infected material (yellowing of the nail in the case of toes).
Canadism is an "infectious" fungal disease - affecting everything from dandruff to vaginal candidiasis.
While not a bad thing from a purely medical standpoint, the underlying condition is often unsightly and can lead to further complications if left untreated.
The best part is that the infection probably won't go away on its own. This means that if you have athlete's foot (another form of candidiasis) or another yeast infection, you will usually have to work hard to clear it up.
There are actually quite a few solutions... "Tiger Balm" (the stronger Vicks Vapor Rub) is one of them.
First, it is important to note that there are two types of candida infection. You can get the growth either on the surface of the skin or it can be embedded in the skin.
Second, ALL Candida reacts the same way to different medications. The only difference is how to get to the root cause of the problem. If you have a deep-seated infection, it will usually require direct access through the surface layer of the skin (this is why laser treatment is used on nail fungus).
The thing is, if you have access to the infection (it's either on or near the surface of the skin), you can apply the active ingredient directly to it. In the case of a "curd" type of substance for most yeast infections, this means you can use anti-dandruff shampoo, yogurt, or "Vicks Vapor Rub" to basically kill the fungal spores. It will be quick and painless.
If you have an ingrained infection (heels/nails/vagina) you need to be careful with what you end up doing. Specifically, if the infection is below the surface of the skin, you need to remove the top layer to hit the fungus directly. That's where Tiger Balm comes in.
Tiger Balm is nothing special. Really strong. And that hurts.
Essentially, the cream tricks the brain into "deadening" the pain receptors on your body. It creates "ice heat" - GREAT for muscle injuries, but basically means you should expect some discomfort when using it (check out Tiger Balm on YouTube for more).
For this reason, if you want to get rid of a nail infection with it, you must first be able to get rid of the surface layer of the nail. This is best done by filing, or it can be done by applying a cream to soften the nail before trying to remove all the infected layers on top.
